The Carter House Museum will be open on Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19 from noon to 5pm for visitors to tour the house and our collection of Summit artifacts, showing the city’s history from its earliest days before the American Revolution to the 1830s, when the first train arrived, up to the present time.
Tour other historic buildings throughout Union County, including Summit's Twin Maples, Reeves-Reed Arboretum, Wallace Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, and the Summit Playhouse.
On Tuesday, November 19th, please join us to celebrate the unveiling of the new historical marker for the Carter House, which was generously donated by the Beacon Fire Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and installed by Paytas Contracting, LLC.

Join friends, family, and neighbors for an afternoon filled with stories, facts, and figures about the history of Summit from A to Z, presented by President Patricia Meola, featuring selected slides from the society’s collection, with each letter in the alphabet representing a person or place connected with the city’s history.
A lifelong Summit resident and Free Public Library supporter, Ms. Meola will explore the details about some historic homes of Summit and the residents who lived in them, plus more.
The Summit Antique Center will host a benefit for the Summit Historical Society on Thursday evening May 5th from 5 pm to 8 pm. As a preview for their Mother’s Day Sale, most items will be priced at 20% off.
